The Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation is a manufacturer of trucks and buses. It is headquartered in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan. The Fuso word is derived from the ancient Chinese term Fusang, for a sacred tree said to grow at the spot in the East where the sun rises and has been used to refer to Japan itself. The actual Fuso tree is a hibiscus.

Trucks like Canter, known for its easy driving diesel engine, and Fighter, with its well-balanced combination of safety, economic efficiency, and eco-friendly design, are also popular.

History

FUSO is known for trucks and buses that come with trusted quality, economic efficiency, solid and functional design, as well as committed services. Mitsubishi FUSO Truck & Bus Corporation is an integral member of Daimler Trucks, the world’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer.

In 1941:- Mitsubishi produced its first YB40 2-ton diesel truck.

In 1951:- W11 4-ton tow truck is produced.

In 1955:- T33 8-ton, Japan’s first genuine heavy-duty truck, is produced.

In 1963:- The first Canter (T720) rolled off the production line in March 1963. The name Canter refers to its power and stamina, which are comparable to qualities of a horse.

In 1977:- “FS119S” heavy-duty low bed truck is launched.

In 1978:- "Canter" light duty truck undergoes full model change. wide cab and 3-ton models are added to lineup.

In 1983:- Mitsubishi produced Heavy-duty truck FT/FU/FV series undergo full model change and is given the new name "The Great."

In 1984:- “Fighter”, medium-duty truck, is launched.

In 1996:- Heavy-duty truck undergoes a first model change in 13 years and named “Super Great”.

In 2003:- The Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) was established. DaimlerChrysler, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and other Mitsubishi companies acquired 43-, 42- and 15-percent shares, respectively, in MFTBC.

In 2005:- Mitsubishi Motors Corporation transferred its MFTBC shares to DaimlerChrysler as part of their compensation agreement for financial damages resulting from quality problems and recalls at MFTBC. DaimlerChrysler and the Mitsubishi companies hold shares of 89 and 11 percent, respectively.

In 2006:- “Canter” light-duty truck undergoes full model change. Wide cab and 3-ton models are added to the lineup.

In 2010:- “Canter” light-duty truck undergoes full model change.

In 2014:- Launched the Super Great V, with its realization of game-changing low-fuel consumption.

In 2016:- The further-evolved “Canter” light-duty truck is launched.

The Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) was made part of the Daimler Group, becoming the international competence centre for the development of light trucks. But there's even more: owing to its experience, collected over decades, in the development of low-emission powertrains, the FUSO headquarters in Kawasaki in Japan is also Daimler's global development centre for hybrid technology.

Fuso trucks are developed and built primarily at the following Japanese facilities:

  • Kawasaki Plant and Research and Development Center
  • Nakatsu Plant, Aikawa, Kanagawa
  • Mitsubishi Fuso Bus Manufacturing Company in Toyama, Toyama

The range was primarily available in other big-size and mid-size trucks. Most mid-size and big-size models of the truck are distinguishable by a front 'Fighter' badge, but the common Mitsubishi badge is usually used on the rear.
